COVID-19: Arrangements for Year 10 & 12

I am writing to you to set out the arrangements we have made to open The Ellesmere Port Church of England College to all Year 10 and 12 students only from Monday 15th June for face to face sessions on designated days and times each week. Children must arrive in full school uniform and further advice regarding bringing items in from home is listed below.

It is essential that your child only attends on the day allocated to them each week at the time specified. The gate will be open on Whitby Road at 9:45am and closed promptly at 10:00am. No child will be admitted into the building if they are late. This is in line with our risk assessment and must be adhered to.

First and foremost, it goes without saying that the safety of your child and our staff is our top priority. We have worked hard, following the government guidance, to develop and implement new ways of operating. This has allowed us to open up as safely as possible, focusing on measures that limit the risk of coronavirus transmitting within our school.

Some of the steps we are taking in readiness for Monday include:

  • â—Ź Asking anyone who is displaying coronavirus symptoms, or who lives with someone who does, that they do not attend school.
  • â—Ź Keeping children and staff in small groups referred to as “bubbles”. We will minimise contact with other groups around the school through strict entrance and exit routines.
  • â—Ź Classrooms have been reconfigured to ensure 2m spacing between students at all times.
  • â—Ź Each day a deep clean of the spaces used will take place in the afternoon and this is in addition to our daily cleaning rota.
  • â—Ź Routines will be established to ensure our children understand when and how to wash their hands and we will have hand sanitiser available in all classrooms.
  • â—Ź Ensuring our children understand good respiratory hygiene by promoting the “catch it, bin it, kill it” approach.
  • â—Ź Asking parents and carers to physically distance from each other and from staff when dropping off and collecting their children. Please limit drop off and collection to one parent or carer per household.
  • â—Ź Parents and carers will not be able to call into school without an appointment being made in advance and even then our aim is for meetings to be held virtually via zoom.
  • â—Ź Asking children not to bring items from home to school, unless this is essential to their health and wellbeing such as medication.
  • â—Ź Ensuring that if social distancing rules are deliberately broken by a student they will be sent home immediately and you will be contacted to let you know that they are being sent home. Parents or carers will then have to meet with the Principal and the offer of a place could be removed for a period of time.

What can Parents and carers do to help?

  • â—Ź If your child displays any symptoms, they should not attend school and they should self-isolate for 7 days. You should also get your child tested and inform the school of the outcome.
  • â—Ź If your child develops symptoms whilst at school, you will be contacted and your child will be sent home immediately. You must then ensure that your child is tested. If the test is positive you must inform school. We can then inform every child and member of staff within their bubble as they will also need to self-isolate for 14 days.

I hope this letter has given you the information you need to understand what arrangements we have made to enable Year 10 and 12 to return to us from Monday.

We are looking forward to welcoming your child back and continuing to support them on the other days via remote learning.

I hope you have confidence that we have taken all of the steps necessary to ensure your child’s safety but if you do have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact us either by telephone, email or social media.Â
