After achieving our Bronze Award earlier in the academic year, our Eco-Committee were eager to progress towards the Silver Award, they have recently been awarded this and here are some of the reasons why:
Curriculum Links
Environmental issues have been covered across the curriculum and are clearly evident in pupil’s work, schemes of work and lesson plans. Including:
- Geography have been learning about Biodiversity, Natural Recycling Systems and the Ecosystem
- Spanish have been focussing on Healthy Living
- Design Technology have been doing a number of projects helping to show environmental impact, including Polymers Project, Metals Project, Dyson Project and the STEM Greenpower Car Challenge
- Art have also done lots of Recycling Projects to show how we can help decrease what we throw away
Informing and Involving
Our school has a prominent and designated Eco – board detailing all of our work on the Eco-Schools Seven Steps and chosen topic actions. This includes: Eco-Committee members from all year groups, meeting minutes, our Eco-Schools Environmental Review, our Action Plan and lots more, this is regularly updated to keep the whole school informed.
Action Plan
Our Action Plan has started to take place including:
- No more single use plastic being used to serve food in the canteen, including the cutlery
- Paper recycling boxes in every room in the building
- Battery recycling boxes in every form room
- Encouraging the importance of healthy living through PSHE
