The Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio (Td/IPV) & Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccinations are being offered to all pupils in Year 9. This is also available to Year 10 and Year 11 pupils who missed this previously when they were in Year 9.
- In school years 9 or 10? Protect yourself against meningitis septicaemia leaflet (.PDF)
- TPIPV Teenage 3 in 1 booster (.PDF)
This will be your child’s fifth and final booster for Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio, as they should have received three as part of their baby immunisation schedule and a fourth before starting school.
It is important for your child to have the MenACWY vaccination, as older teenagers are most at risk from these strains of Meningococcal bacteria. These can cause Meningitis (inflammation of the brain) and Septicaemia (blood poisoning), both of which can be life threatening.
The majority of universities also require new students to have had this vaccination prior to commencing their studies, due to the increased risk for the student age group.
Measles
Now is a good time to check if your child has had 2 doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine.
Measles is an infection that spreads very easily and can cause serious problems if it spreads to other parts of the body, such as the lungs or brain. Having the MMR vaccine is the best way to prevent it, and your child needs to have received 2 doses in order to be protected.
If you think your child is outstanding their MMR vaccinations, please contact us on 01244 397470 to arrange an appointment with our team.
You can contact us by phone or email to check your child’s vaccination history, using the details at the top of this letter.
